a matter of time
(1982 - revised and completed 1998)

I first had the idea for this piece way back in 1982 (at the time of starting to write for 'Regular Music'). The piano riff and the harmonies were there but I struggled to find the right form and arrange it properly - don't know why really...

It retains that sense of performance element that was important to Regular Music. Some of the backing instruments are sequenced but quite a bit of the piano is 'live' as are Tony Maloney's drums.

When it came to finding someone to speak a few words that I had written to go with the track,  I asked my friend Laetitia Long. We recorded these at Tony's studio, and then I sampled different takes and placed them at suitable points in the piece.

Many thanks to Laetitia and Tony, and also to Kevin Le Morvan who engineered and offered encouragement.
