'Like a fever'
This is a re-working of an old piece called 'Shudder' that was written
for Regular Music and given its 1st performance in 1985 at the Bloomsbury
Theatre.
In adapting it for the album 'chill to this' I made the link with House
music. This wasn't difficult - the original piece had some strong premonitions
of that style - particularly the lead piano part, and when Charles Hayward
used to under-pin the chorus with a strong bass drum beat.
There's a companion piece 'Prayer', very quiet and very still, for voice(s)
and piano, that puts words to the chorus:
'Give me peace in my soul
Give me love I can hold
And throughout all this time
Heal my heart from bitter rhyme
Let your spirit my love
Walk with me in the sky above'
It would be good to perform the two ('Prayer' and 'like a fever') together
some time...
