My latest piece featuring layered keyboards, 2 alto saxophones and strings:

This was the result of a productive couple of weeks working with Logic's Scripter Midi plug in.  The source was Bach's 1st Prelude from The Well Tempered Clavier, a beautiful tonal exploration... something profound and fundamental.  I played it expressively in free time and added keyboard layers, a warm wash of strings and a free saxophone melody over the top.  To create the variations I was able to transfer into code some of the techniques from my recent composition 'The Art of Conversation'.  This meant I could instantly  'translate' my performance into 56 different modes (laid out as different tracks) and then choose instinctively the ones I found the most appealing and significant.  It was wonderful to hear the variety of progressions and solutions unfold - many were useable.  I also added a pentatonic version which could be combined with the modes to add a warm richer harmony.  So that led to a saxophone duet because both versions were running simultaneously - it was joy that the 2 saxophone lines harmonised very well.  Some of the results of this process are predictable, but some are not - they sometimes work beautifully, sometimes they fail !  So one can't be rigid about it - artistic judgement comes into play. I'm learning all the time with each new work.  This one felt like a gift...I find it very beautiful (as do others in the comments I've received).

I should say that the design and outcome are all my own original (human) work - I did use Google's Gemini to assist with writing the actual Scripter Code...that was really efficient and quick.  I'm very much opposed to using so called AI to make creative decisions, but to help with a programming language  LLMs are great and so fast.
